Let’s catch up on some news from the weekend…
We will carry some pictures in this space but if you happen to be in New York on January 13, all three Cunard ships will be in port in New York.
They are, of course, the Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. They’ll be in port all day with the QM2 at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and the other two at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
They will meet at the Statue of Liberty for a fireworks celebration at 6:45 p.m. I doubt you will see much except for the fireworks show, so best to see them during the day.

Speaking of Cunard, few other cruise lines have a female captain. Inger Klein Olsen has assumed command of the Queen Victoria.
On Wednesday, she will guide the ship out of drydock and then make her first cruise in command of a ship carrying passengers. The 43-year-old captain was born and raised in the Faroe Islands, and she joined Cunard in 1997 as First Officer on board Caronia. In 2001, she transferred to the Seabourn fleet, which was then part of Cunard. She sailed on Seabourn Sun and Seabourn Spirit before being promoted to the rank of Staff Captain on Pride in 2003.

Disney Cruise Line last week took delivery of its latest ship, the Disney Dream, from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany.
It’s an early handover with the maiden voyage out of Port Canaveral (Orlando) not scheduled until January 26. Well before that, I’ll be onboard to give you a first-hand look at what could be the ship-of-the-year in 2011.
The Dream is the first of two vessels purchased by Disney. The next one — Fantasy — is scheduled for delivery in 2012. The Dream is scheduled to sail 3-4-5-night cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral.

And finally, Holland America has been recognized by two major cruise line agency groups.
Holland America is Ensemble Travel’s choice as cruise line partner-of-the-year and Travel Leaders Franchise Group‘s pick as supplier-of-the-year. Well done, HAL.
On that note, all for now.
