Until now, Carnival Cruise Lines has confined its European schedule to the launch of new ships being launched in Europe, followed the re-positioning to North America in the fall to take up permanent residence.
It started with the first of the “Dream” series — the Dream, the Magic last year and the Breeze in June.
In 2013, the Carnival Legend (above) will make its way across the Atlantic — east-bound — to spend the entire summer in Europe, with a lot of itineries jammed into its schedule.
Carnival will operate its first Norwegian fjords itinerary, an extended UK program, plus Baltic and Mediterranean cruises.
It starts with the Legend’s 15-day Transatlantic crossing, departing Tampa on April 7 and arriving Barcelona April 22, 2013. Featured ports on this voyage include King’s Wharf (Bermuda), Ponta Delgada in the Azores (Portugal) and Malaga and Palma de Mallorca in Spain.
The ship will spend most of the spring operating 12-day Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Venice. During the summer, it will be in Dover, England, again sailing 12-day cruises mainly to the Baltics with some unique itineraries that take in Norway and one that adds Scotland and Ireland to the mix.
It’s only one ship, but Carnival appears to be attempting to cover Europe in 2013.
This year, the Carnival Breeze will follow its June by operating 12-day Mediterranean cruises out of Barcelona. Prices and itineraries can be found at Carnival’s website.
All for now.
